Ola Creates Job Opportunities for Entrepreneurs in West Bengal ; Hands over first 50 cars to driver partners

Kolkata, September 13, 2018: Following the commitment of creating 5000 entrepreneurial opportunities, Ola, India’s leading and one of the world’s largest ride-hailing companies, announced handed over the first 50 cars to driver partners on its platform in Kolkata. The initiative falls in line with the MoU signed with the West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (WBTIDCL) and Ola to create 5000 employment opportunities. The MoU was signed earlier in the year during the Bengal Global Business Summit 2018, in esteemed presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt Mamata Banerjee and the State Finance Minister Shri Amit Mitra.
The handing over of car keys to aspiring driver partners took place in the city today, in presence of Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Hon’ble Transport & Environment Minister, Government of West Bengal; Shri B.P. Gopalika, I.A.S, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Government of West Bengal; Sandeep Upadhyay, Regional Head – East Zone, Ola and Avik Das, City head – Ola Fleet Technologies.
The cars will be attached on the Ola platform under the company’s leasing arm, Ola Fleet Technologies. Ola has further aided all the driver partners by giving them better access to training that includes digital and safety, as well as other benefits such as insurance.
Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Hon’ble Transport & Environment Minister, Government of West Bengal said, “On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, we are delighted to get associated with a good initiative. Being a part of pro-people Government, today car keys are being handed-over to the unemployed youth of Bengal who are registered with us and are holding valid driving licenses. Under the Government’s Gatidhara scheme, last year also 10,453 youth were benefitted and through Ola, another 5000 are getting benefitted. We are hence thankful to Ola.”
