  • Campaign to encourage citizens to not drive under influence, also enables discounted cab rides

New Delhi, 19 September 2016: As part of its continued campaign against drunken driving, Ola, India’s largest transportation platform, has teamed with the Hauz Khas Village Traders Association to encourage patrons and visitors of leading pubs and bars in Hauz Khas Village to take a safe and specially discounted Ola Cab ride after a night out with friends. As part of this initiative, Ola has also installed digital breathalysers in Hauz Khas Village to ascertain if their alcohol in blood ratio is within the prescribed limits. Rolled out on Friday last week, this campaign will continue for 3 weeks. Hundreds of people visiting HKV benefited from this drive over the weekend and took a safe Ola Ride back from their favorite party place in the city.

Deep Singh, Business Head – North at Ola said, “At Ola, we are focused on our mission of building mobility for a billion Indians. An integral part of this mission is to build a safe and reliable experience for citizens. Hauz Khas Village attracts a lot of visitors given its popularity amongst party-goers. Through this unique campaign, we are encouraging people to take a safe ride back home instead of driving drunk, post partying and do their bit to make our roads and cities safer. We will extend similar programs to other parts of the city and will continue to put in our efforts to curb the menace of drunken driving.” He further added, “Due its immense popularity, Hauz Khas Village area is also facing traffic congestion issues and apart from this awareness drive; we will also work closely with the association to streamline the traffic situation in the area.”

Hauz Khas Village is one of the most popular and key areas of South Delhi; hence attracts a lot of visitors on a daily basis; making it crucial to maintain the traffic and on-road discipline around the area. Through this campaign, Ola is aiming to create a safe and seamless on-road experience for the commuters in South Delhi.

Shailendra Singh, Chairman, South Delhi Municipal Corporation said, “Hauz Khas Village is one of the most popular party destinations in the city and attracts a lot of youngsters and tourists. The area gets extremely congested with the number of cars that come in, especially over weekends. In order to decongest the area, it is important that people understand the benefits of hailing a cab or use shared mobility options. This would help in bringing down the vehicular traffic levels in the area and would also discourage patrons to indulge in drunken driving. Awareness drives like these will go a long way in making our roads and cities safer.” He further added, “It is also important to understand that it’s pivotal to improve the on-road safety of the commuters, especially women. If we are able to address the issues of traffic congestion and drunken driving effectively then it would be easier and safer for women to commute even during late hours.”

Satinder Sarna, President, HKV Traders Association said, “I am thankful to Ola for extending its support to HKV Traders Association through their unique campaign to discourage drunken driving. It is crucial that we create awareness around the issue of drunken driving and make people realise that there are easy alternatives available in the market through which they can avoid driving after consuming alcohol. At the same time, it is also necessary to have apt platforms through which the right message could reach out the maximum number of people. Campaigns like Ola’s ‘Don’t Drink & Drive’ is one such platform and we are confident that it will play a significant role in creating awareness against the issue of drunken driving.”

Ola has been spearheading campaigns for safe rides and safer roads in the region. Ola associated with Delhi Police and a number of leading pubs in North Delhi for a similar activity earlier this year. On last New year’s eve, Ola deployed more than 500 shuttles to ferry over 10,000 people to their homes from popular party hot-spots around Delhi NCR.

Ola provides hassle free and reliable transport to millions of customers in India everyday. Apart from Ola Prime, commuters also have wide range of smart commuting solutions like Ola Micro, Ola Mini, Ola Share, Ola Lux, Ola Rentals, Ola Autos and Ola Shuttle available on their Ola app.
