On World AIDS Day, Ola partners with NACO to raise AIDS awareness
- HIV/AIDS education and counselling sessions for driver-partners initiated
- MoU signed between Ola and National Aids Control Organisation for raising awareness against AIDS amongst driver partners
Jaipur, December 1, 2016: Ola, India’s most popular mobile app for transportation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) to raise awareness and offer counselling services to its tens of thousands of driver-partners across the state of Rajasthan. Additionally, Ola has partnered with the State of Rajasthan Aids Control Society (SACS) for the development and implementation of an Employer Led Model (ELM) for reaching informal workers with an AIDS/HIV prevention and care program.
Recognizing the need for consolidating support and energies from all stakeholders, NACO and SACS aim to organize a range of activities in partnership with Ola, the largest mobility platform in Rajasthan. SACS will conduct an outreach session for Ola driver-partners, to discuss the risk perception of HIV/AIDS and spread the prevention message. Additionally, it will also organise a training session for health staff, who will then conduct one-to-group health sessions for these driver-partners. To maximise participation, Ola will organise health camps and share communication materials with its driver-partners, in addition to focussed briefing and counselling sessions.
Kiran Brahma, Business Head – Rajasthan, Ola, said, “Ola strongly believes in giving back to the community that it is a part of. With hundreds of thousands of driver-partners on its platform, it’s imperative that we join hands with organisations like NACO & SACS, and pool in our collective energies to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In one of the addresses as the then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam said that it’s his dream to have ‘HIV-free’ India; this partnership is a strong step in that direction. We look forward to imparting holistic education and counselling services to our driver partners in Rajasthan, and eventually in the rest of the country too.”
In terms of benefitting the community with respect to healthcare and well being, Ola has previously conducted several blood donation camps in cities across the country. It has also launched an initiative to educate people about the importance of giving way to ambulances to save lives. The campaign, called #GiveWayGiveLife was lauded and endorsed by Apollo Hospitals.
