Rajasthan Government inks pact with Ola to create a pool of skilled drivers

~ Collaboration falls under National Urban Livelihoods Mission to provide livelihood to 10,000 youths of the state ~

Jaipur, 27th October 2017: In line with the commitment towards skilling and supporting micro-entrepreneurship, Ola, India’s most popular mobile app for transportation, has signed an MoU with the Government of Rajasthan to identify and skill 10,000 driver-entrepreneurs in the state. The collaboration between the Directorate of Local Bodies, Rajasthan Government and Ola falls under the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) to provide livelihood opportunities to youth across Rajasthan and other parts of the country.

Under the partnership, Local Self Government Department, Government of Rajasthan will identify candidates from challenging  backgrounds and enable them with skills  alongside IL&FS Skills Development Corporation Limited (IL&FS Skills), a joint venture between IL&FS Education and Technology Services Limited (IL&FS Education) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The skilled professionals will be associated with Ola’s platforms as driver-entrepreneurs in various high demand markets such as  Mumbai and Delhi, among others. The first batch of 3000 professionals will be on-boarded by Ola in its Mumbai market. In addition to this, Ola will organise on-ground events, build communication modules, and create a healthy and conducive ecosystem for aspiring driver partners to get the requisite training and skills.

Pawan Arora, Director cum Joint Secretary, Local Self Government Department, Government of Rajasthan, said, “Under Hon’ble Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the State has been working on various skilling initiatives and we are confident that our partnership with Ola will accelerate government’s efforts towards economic development along with effectively creating entrepreneurial opportunities for tens of thousands of men and women across the state. Over the years, Ola has emerged as the preferred mode of transportation in several cities of Rajasthan and their huge scale provides various entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth. The government has also laid down several policies to bolster progress by creating sustainable environment for industries and businesses to grow. Subsequently, deploying the right skilling and training methodologies to create employability and entrepreneurial opportunities will be invaluable for the state’s growth.

Other than identifying eligible candidates, the government will also facilitate and resolve issues regarding Transport License & Taxi Badge with Transport Department and police verifications of the trained professionals.

Ola’s focus on skilling:

Ola is deeply committed to Government of India’s skill development initiative and has rolled out several programmes to promote entrepreneurial growth and opportunities across the country. Recently, Ola had tied up with NSDC and RISE India to skill 50 lakh drivers in the next 5 years, committing Rs. 100 crore towards the initiative. Ola and RISE India are also in the process of setting up 500 driver training centres across the country. Ola is working closely with NSKFDC (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment) to create 10,000 women driver entrepreneurs over the next 5 years. It has also signed MoUs with several state governments including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, and Maharashtra for skilling of youth, men and women to reduce unemployment in the country and improve their and their family’s standard of living.
